2025 Junior Cricket Information

2025 Junior Cricket Information

Daniel Harris30 Mar - 16:37

Everything you need to know for our young cricketers (5-15 years old)

As we get towards the end of our winter programme and look to head outside, below is information for all our junior members covering everything from training, kit, memberships and much more.

Membership – Please ensure these are paid ASAP. Memberships are required for all children training and wishing to be selected for matches, and also allows you to book our nets for practice. The memberships help us cover substantial club running costs and ensure we have qualified coaches and high standard, safe facilities. You can pay in full or split over a few months by CLICKING HERE. A reminder that this year membership comes with a FREE 2025 playing shirt worth £30.

Last indoor training day – Saturday 5th April. In the morning before these sessions, we have a working party at the County Ground from 9am to get the club ready for the 2025 season. It would be great to see some junior members and their parents to help us out.

Outdoor training
– starting Friday 18th April at the Swindon Cricket Club County Ground. As usual we will have the hatch open selling refreshments and cooked snacks, so come and join us for some summer sun on the patio as your child trains.

Please ensure children come in suitable clothing with a drink. When it is sunny please ensure children have a hat and sunscreen applied, otherwise coaches may ask for this to be done before your child joins the session. At the end of your child’s session please ensure you are there to pick your child up – our coaches may have somewhere they need to be and cannot leave children unattended.

Timings are as follows, although parents are able to ‘stay and play’ with your children afterwards and enjoy a Friday night refreshment/snack. We normally have children enjoying the sport and safety of the club until around 9pm.

  • Under 9s – 17:30-18:45
  • Under 11s – 17:30-19:00
  • Under 13s – 18:00-19:30
  • Under 15s – 18:15-20:00

Training can be impacted by wet weather. If this is the case, we will communicate via Pitchero, Whatsapp groups (if you aren’t in one, please ask your coach to add you) and the clubs social media. On Pitchero, please ensure your contact information is up to date, all fields are completed on your profile and you have a date of birth entered, as without one you will not receive our messages!

New members are always welcome – please drop us a message at swindoncricketclub@gmail.com to get the ball rolling.

AllStars cricket for 5-8 year olds – If you are looking to get your 5-8 year old into cricket, this is the perfect opportunity and comes with a free shirt, plastic bat and ball. We are running this ever popular programme again this summer – CLICK HERE for all the information and how to sign up.

Nets access – Net practice is a great way to connect with your children and help them improve their game. Paid members are able to book our practice nets facilities. This system will go live in the next week so please keep an eye out for a separate article on this.

1-2-1 training – club Director of Cricket Wayne and overseas player Seb (arriving late April) offer additional 1-2-1 coaching based out of the club. If your child needs some extra help or wants to improve their game, please speak to them directly with regards to availability and prices.

Kit – While members receive a FREE 2025 playing shirt worth £30, there is much more club kit available from our supplier NXT - CLICK HERE. The youth training shirts, shorts and hoodies are very popular. For kit like bats, pads etc. we would recommend a visit to Uzi Sports in Swindon. U9s don’t require any kit, but may like their own bat. At older age groups, while we have some club kit, we would recommend getting your child their own if possible. Coaches have noticed we have a number of juniors using bats that are too big and often too heavy. This really limits their chance of improving so speak to a coach or the staff at Uzi Sports who can help recommend a suitable size/weight bat.

If you have any old kit, please feel free to utilise the whatsapp groups to sell/exchange, or if you would like to donate it to the club please see Kev or Daniel.

Social media – as well as the website, we often post on our social media channels. Please give us a follow on Facebook, X and Instagram.

Matches – Match dates will be published on Pitchero as they are finalised, but please note that most youth matches are on Sundays. On match days please be aware the coaches WILL need support from parents. This includes helping to set the ground up, scoring, umpiring, packing away etc. We encourage parents to stay while there children are playing and please get involved where you can. Many hands make light work!

Volunteers – the club is run and maintained by a small group of committed volunteers. As the club has seen rapid growth over recent years, we are looking for more people to get involved – players, parents, wider family members, friends, work colleagues etc. can all help out and be proud of having an impact in their local community (and use the experience to enhance CVs, get that promotion etc). We are currently looking for help in the following areas: bar volunteers, general ground volunteers and pavilion volunteers (week to week tidying/cleaning). If you can help out please approach Kev, Daniel or email us at swindoncricketclub@gmail.com

We look forward to another bumper summer of cricket and look forward to welcoming you all into the Swindon CC cricket family.
