Senior club player, Archie Atwell (sponsored by RGB Communications), has been down in Australia this winter. As we build towards the summer we asked him for an update of his time 'down under' and about how the winter cricket trip came about.
"For the last 5 months I have been completing an Australian cricketing summer in Western Australia. It’s been an amazing experience and one that is highly accessible if you know where to look. With the help of the platform ‘Cricketer exchange’ I was connected with many different teams and associations offering amazing opportunities to go and play.
Being able to play in new conditions with new people has been an experience I won’t ever forget and one I would recommend to anyone. Playing in a much more compacted ladder I have been able to play in representative tournaments against some extremely talented players who have played at the highest level. This for sure has been one of the highlights and has helped to progress my game.
Overall, the general culture of Australian cricket has been great fun and very welcoming, most of the time! It is definitely something I’ll look to do again and something I’d 100% recommend."
If anyone is thinking about organising a winter trip in the future, Archie can share his experience of setting it up and the club also has overseas contacts - just reach out to the committee as we would be happy to help as these trips provide fantastic opportunities for cricket and personal development.
