Massive congratulations are in order from all at Swindon CC to club youth player Rhys Baker, who has been selected for the prestigious Bunbury Festival.
At the end of last season Rhys transitioned from Wiltshire CC to the Gloucestershire CC Emerging Player Programme with an ambition to be invited to this seasons Bunbury trials. After working hard throughout the winter both in the gym and in the nets at school and with Gloucestershire he was invited to trial with 23 players from the other south west counties.
Rhys participated in 4 x 50 over trail matches in Taunton, Wells & Oxford with an ever narrowing squad. The final match was on July 5th and after a sleepless night he was delighted to receive an email on the July 6th offering him a place in the final 14 man squad.
Rhys is currently being challenged in his preparation, in recent weeks he has made his Swindon CC 1st XI debut and has represented Gloucestershire U16’s, U18’s & 2nd XI.
The Bunbury Festival will be held over the 1st week of August at Loughborough University and will include 5 games over 5 days against the North, Midlands & London & East teams; with additional training sessions in the ECB Performance Centre.
Rhys is understood to be over the moon to be able to challenge himself with the top 56 U15 players across the county, and is forever grateful for all the coaching and support he’s received over the years from Swindon CC Head Coach Wayne Pascal and more recently Gloucestershire coaches Paul Muchall & Mark Thornbury.
